Week of March 8

Welcome to HCA Joyful Music

Featuring our Early Childhood Music Makers

Our Nursery 3 students were very excited to be introduced to the rhythm sticks.  They are learning to play them properly, experimenting with different rhythms and having fun playing them.  To get in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, they played along with the Irish song, Rin Tin Tinah and had a great time, as you can see in this video here

Our Pre-K students have been working on rhythm patterns and have been introduced to the concept of a rest in music.  I often say in music it's important to know when not to play as well as to know when to play.  With this Play and Stop song, the children are asked to stop playing and rest.  This requires listening and self control.  We also varied the tempo and they played right along.  They did a terrific job as you can see in this video here.

The Kindergarten is preparing to work on a composition project in which they will all have a part in composing an original song.   We have been working on reading and writing quarter notes, eighth note pairs and quarter note rests.  This week they were introduced to the PsP Bells app which features color coded pitched bells. This app will help them as they begin their composition.  They practiced playing color coded notation to match the bells.  We played "Name That Tune" as they played phrases from common children's songs and had to name the song after playing it.
