Week of December 7

Welcome to HCA Joyful Music

Featuring Our Early Childhood Music Makers

December is finally here! 2020 has been a year no one will forget.  Despite the challenges, we have been able to find Christmas joy in our music classes.  We are celebrating Advent and preparing for Jesus' birthday with songs, chants,  play alongs, and dancing.  The children are a daily source of joy and blessings.  Thank you for sharing your child with us and your commitment to Holy Child Academy.
Have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!

With each new week of Advent, we "light" a new Advent candle and sing our Advent song,
He Is Coming.  This is a sweet song that all of the children are learning.
Here Nursery 2 is lighting the Advent candles while singing He Is Coming.

Play alongs are always popular with the children.  Playing along with music allows a child to explore and develop their sense of rhythm.  Here the Nursery 3 class is enjoying a play along to
Jingle Bell Rock.

The children have also been learning the rhythmic poem, Five Little Candles.  The Pre-K has been doing a great job with it, as you can see.

In addition to all the Christmas fun, the Kindergarten is learning about tempo, steady beat and rhythm.  They have begun to read and play along with rhythm notation.  The Kindergarten begins each class by singing and moving to the song Time for MusicThis song emphasizes rhythm and a steady beat by including an 8 count after each verse.

The Kindergarten is learning to read rhythmic notation.  So far they have been introduced to eighth notes and quarter notes (in the Kodaly method, ta and ti-ti).  They are learning to play with a steady beat. Here are a couple of rhythm patterns on which we have been working.
